Thomas Guay is the author of Chesapeake Bound, a work of historical fiction set in the uneasy years just before the American Revolution. A former Capitol Hill reporter, Guay turned from modern politics to the eighteenth century, tracing why ordinary Londoners – pressed by poverty, prejudice, and a rigid class system – chose to risk everything on a passage to colonial America.
Drawing on years as a historical guide at the Charles Carroll House in Annapolis, Guay brings the textures of daily colonial life – and the human cost of empire – into sharp relief. He studied history at the University of Maryland under Dr. Gordon Prange (Tora! Tora! Tora!) and cites Barbara Tuchman (The Guns of August) as a major influence on his narrative approach to storytelling.
Some of these scenes reflect Tom’s experiences sailing the Chesapeake Bay over the past 20 years and participating in the Wednesday Night Races for 12 years on a 36-ft Cal.
