Officer First Class Tyson Johnson was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where he grew up on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, coming from a family of commercial watermen. A graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland, he was a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honors Society, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies with a science focus. He has 3 years of law enforcement experience and has been assigned to Anne Arundel County since he started working for the Natural Resources Police.

Captain Mayo is in his 25th year with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, a major metropolitan Fire Department, and currently serves as the station commander for the Cape St. Claire Fire Station, overseeing fire, EMS, and marine operations. He is a lifelong resident of Maryland, born in Annapolis and growing up in Arnold.

Captain Mayo has worked in all four battalions, the Training Academy, and Logistics. Capt. Mayo previously served as a Lieutenant in the Special Operations Division and still holds specialist certifications in hazmat, high-angle, collapse, trench, confined space, swiftwater, and dive rescue. Additionally, he holds certifications as a rescue swimmer and a marine vehicle operator (boat captain). He is a current member of the Maryland Task Force 1 FEMA-USAR team, based in Montgomery County. He has also led the AACoFD Recruit Training Program for multiple fire academy classes.

In Addition to his current assignment, Capt. Mayo serves as a department Public Information Officer and a team lead for the Peer Support Team. Capt. Mayo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Health Services Management and a Master’s degree in Public Safety Administration and is a licensed fire-rescue instructor by the University of Maryland Instructor Certification Review Board.
