Tour of Poplar Island, an environmental restoration project located in the Chesapeake Bay in Talbot County, Maryland.

This beneficial use project relies on dredged material collected from the approach channels to the Baltimore Harbor to restore lost remote island habitat within the Chesapeake Bay. When the project began in 2001, the island was scarcely five acres. It is now more than 1,700 acres and a vibrant ecosystem!

CAPCA is pleased to announce that we have secured a private tour for CAPCA members. There is no cost, and registration is first-come, first-served. We will also begin a wait list if we hit our maximum number of 23, in case any registrant must cancel. Additionally, should we not reach the maximum, we will open additional spots to guests of registrants.

Before registering, please be aware of these conditions:

• You will have to arrive at the Tilghman Island “land base” by 8:45 am, so factor an early morning commute into your planning. The street address is 21548 Chicken Point Road.
• Participants must be prepared to board a boat and climb a few steps; however, the amount of walking is minimal. A motor coach will be used to tour our group to designated vistas and stops.
• The tour includes one bathroom break approximately 45-60 minutes after arriving on the island. There is a portable toilet available at the land base for use before the boat’s 9 am departure.
• Participants are encouraged to bring personal snacks and water.
• Poplar Island is an active construction site. Closed-toed shoes with appropriate soles, such as sneakers or hiking shoes, are required. Failure to wear closed-toed shoes will result in getting turned away at the land base.
