Captain Mike Clark
USCG 100-ton Master Inland
My father was in the Navy, so I grew up around the world, usually by the water, much of my youth was spent surfing and fishing. After graduating from college, I followed a girl to the beach, without any job prospects. I ended up taking a job as a deck hand on a commercial long-liner. When the girl left the beach to go back to college, I followed her a few months later. While my commercial fishing days were over, my love of the ocean and boating was just beginning. I am still married to that girl 35 years later.
Our first boat was a 35’ Egg Harbor Sportfisher, we used for fishing and cruising the lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay. Since then, we have owned boats ranging from 20’ center consoles to a 44’ Ocean Yacht Sportfisher.
I received my USCG license in 2015 and hold 100T master with assistance towing endorsement. I have had the opportunity to captain a wide variety of vessels over the past 8 years ranging from 80’ tour boats to 20’ tiller steer john boats, and everything in between, including training captain for Freedom Boat Club, Tow Boat Driver for TowBoatUS, and delivery captain.
My wife and I have recently moved to Ingram Bay on the Northern Neck. I am currently the Marina Captain at the Tides Inn in Irvington, VA with plans to start a charter fishing operation in the Northern Neck this spring. My wife and I spend our winters in Key West, FL.
