Assistant Vice-President
Captain Greg Pabst
USCG 50-ton Master Inland with Sailing, Towing, and STCW Endorsements
My interest in boating started at a young age, in a reservoir north of Baltimore, then the bay, ending up in a few oceans. I graduated from a maritime school that was in Baltimore before it was relocated to Easton, (MEBA), and sailed as a licensed engineer on various merchant vessels. I took those engineering skills ashore where I’ve been managing shore side plants ever since.
My experience on one of these ships that was on a coastwise route between Baltimore, Elizabeth NJ and Boston included cruising through the upper bay and the C&D canal twice a week (up and back). The fond memories of this cruising area got me back into boating when our boys got old enough to crew, starting with a trailerable sailboat and ending up in a 36’ ketch with grandchildren.
One of our vacations to the Virgin Islands included a Moorings charter, that required filling out their “Sailing Yacht Resume”. When I heard about a USCG Captains Course, I figured a deck license would be nice to have for a future charter opportunity. However, the course and what CAPCA has offered me over the past 20 years only proved that “it’s what you learn after you think you know it all” is what really counts.
I look forward to taking this next step with CAPCA, and hope I can give back just a small part of all I’ve gained.
