The instructor is Dr. Sam Lyness, a retired neurosurgeon with a 50-Ton inland master license with sail and tow endorsements.
This course is designed to teach the recognition and management of medical emergencies offshore where timely communications and rescue are limited or not possible. All captains are responsible for the safety and comfort of his or her crew. The captain is also the chief medical officer unless a medical professional is onboard.
This class focuses on how a captain with limited medical expertise can handle medical emergencies reasonably and logically, minimizing loss of life and limb. The course cost includes a reference PowerPoint printout and a continental breakfast.
