Members-Only Tour: Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, Wednesday, June 11, 2025, 9:30 am – Noon  THE TOUR IS FULL

Built in 1875, the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse is celebrating its 150^th anniversary this year! CAPCA is pleased to show our support of this iconic aid to navigation with a private tour for 12-16 of our members on Wednesday morning, June 11, 2025. Many have sailed past this treasured lighthouse or have seen it in photos. But few have been inside, so now is your opportunity!

We will be guided by two lighthouse docents and will tour the interior while learning about the history of the light, the life of a keeper, and the role of our modern-day Coast Guard. The Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark and is one of only twelve lighthouses in the country to be bestowed this high honor. It is the last "intact" lighthouse of its kind left in its original location.

Our tour includes a 30-minute boat ride to the lighthouse, a docent-led tour of the interior, and a 30-minute return boat ride. This is considered an adventure tour, with vertical steps and strenuous activity, so be sure you are physically capable before registering for this tour. Closed-toed shoes will be required.

Tours will depart from a dock near the Annapolis Maritime Museum (723 2nd Street, Annapolis MD 21403). More details about where to park and gather will be provided to the registrants one week before the event. Expect to be parked and at our meet-up location by 9:15 so that the boat can depart promptly at 9:30 am.

Due to space limitations, attendees will be limited to a maximum of 16, and we need a minimum of 12 to guarantee a private tour. Should we not have 12 members registered by Wednesday, May 28, CAPCA will open registration to guests of registered members. Further details will be provided to registrants one week before the event. Tour of Poplar Island, an environmental restoration project located in the Chesapeake Bay in Talbot County, Maryland.

Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 9 am-noon

This beneficial use project relies on dredged material collected from the approach channels to the Baltimore Harbor to restore lost remote island habitat within the Chesapeake Bay. When the project began in 2001, the island was scarcely five acres. It is now more than 1,700 acres and a vibrant ecosystem!

CAPCA will have a booth at the Powerboat Show. Volunteers are needed to staff the booth and promote CAPCA membership and job opportunities for our members. There will be two shifts each day: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Booth assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Volunteers will have free admission to the show. CAPCA will cover your parking.
